Triticale
Triticale was originally produced from a cross between wheat and rye. (Triticum x Secale = Tritcale)
It is an unusually robust cereal crop species that is capable of being grown successfully on a wide range of soil types and rotational positions. Most interestingly, it performs with remarkable consistency on marginal soils, where it is difficult to achieve consistently good yields of wheat. As Triticale tends to be a leafy and vigorous species, it is often grown for grazing or whole-crop silage as well as for grain.
Nickerson represent 2 varieties of Triticale: Tremplin, bred by Serasem in France, and Agrano from DSV in Germany. Agrono is produced exclusively by Organic Seed Producers.
